About the role
This is an excellent opportunity for a lawyer or legal consultant with a strong energy law, policy and/or regulation background and an in-depth knowledge of climate and energy policies in Indonesia to make a key contribution to the work of ClientEarth’s Energy Systems, Asia Programme.
ClientEarth is a group of international legal experts on climate, energy and the environment. We use the law in partnership with governments, the private sector and the public to address climate change, capture the opportunities of the low-carbon transition and protect nature.
The purpose of this role is to strengthen and accelerate the low-carbon transition to avoid dangerous climate change. In this role, you will actively scope and develop ClientEarth’s work in Indonesia, conduct legal, technical and factual research and drafting; and support our legal capacity-building work across the region. You will continue to develop our network of relationships in Indonesia.
Meet your Manager
In this role, you will be managed by Tim Guanzon. Tim joined ClientEarth in 2022 and works on energy regulation and markets in Asia. Before joining ClientEarth, Tim was the Director for the Energy Committee under a Philippine Senator for close to 6 years. Her work focused on legislation and oversight over the entire energy value chain where she led the team providing legal and technical support for the passage of 11 new energy laws. She is one of the awardees of the Women in Renewables Asia 2019.
Main Duties
- Build a network of relationships in Indonesia, actively scoping and developing ClientEarth’s plans in Indonesia
- Provide substantive inputs into team strategies for using energy law, policy and regulation in engagement, advocacy and legal interventions to drive climate ambition and action and accelerate the net-zero transition across Asia
- Conduct research and prepare analyses of energy, corporate and financial law, policy and regulation relevant to the energy transition in Indonesia and Asia

Role requirements
- Law degree or equivalent
- Relevant legal professional qualification in Indonesia
- Experience in energy (particularly renewable energy) law, policy and regulation
- Specific experience in and knowledge of Indonesia and its energy regulation landscape
- Fluent (CEFR level C2 in English (essential) and in Bahasa Indonesia

Contractual status
ClientEarth is not currently registered as an entity in Indonesia. We will therefore either employ the successful candidate via an Employer of Record arrangement, or as a Consultant (services contract).
