About the role
This is a valuable opportunity for a self-motivated lawyer to contribute to ClientEarth’s mission of protecting people and the planet through the power of the law. The position will primarily focus on safeguarding and restoring terrestrial and freshwater species, habitats and ecosystems in EU Member States and beyond.
The role involves legal research, strategic litigation, advocacy and capacity building aimed at ensuring the development, implementation, and enforcement of strong nature laws. You will be supporting the implementation of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Nature Restoration Regulation in Member States, countering efforts to weaken nature laws and agreements at the EU and international level, and contributing to interventions outside of the EU to facilitate the implementation of the area-based nature conservation and restoration targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework. You will have the opportunity to support other Terrestrial and Freshwater Ecosystems Team colleagues in their projects and develop your own interventions.
Meet your Manager
In this role, you will be managed by Marta Klimkiewicz. Marta joined ClientEarth in 2018 and is based in Warsaw. Marta has been with ClientEarth for almost 7 years and specializes in policy and legal frameworks underpinning nature conservation and restoration, with a focus on establishment and governance of protected areas.
Main Duties
- Conduct research and analysis to assess opportunities for, and contribute to the delivery of, litigation, policy interventions, regulatory compliance and capacity enhancing in selected EU and non-EU countries, contributing to the delivery of Targets 2 and 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework, the 30% and 10% targets of EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030, and the Nature Restoration Regulation.
- Provide legal support in litigation and/or regulatory processes, including drafting pleadings, policy recommendations, complaints, and advocacy materials aimed at safeguarding and restoring key species, habitats and ecosystems.
- Represent ClientEarth at external meetings with partners and stakeholders to uphold ClientEarth’s continuous presence and contribution to relevant legislative processes and coalition work.

Role requirements
- Fluent in English (CEFR level C2)
- Demonstrated understanding of environmental regulations, including national, EU and international legal frameworks
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and drafting skills
